Martín Álvarez

A sociologist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a Master’s degree in Urban Development from the same university. He is currently a PhD student in Criminology at Stockholm University, Sweden.

His doctoral research is an ethnographic study in La Victoria (Santiago, Chile), focusing on the dynamics of violence in urban contexts marked by inequality and illegal economies. Specifically, he explores how these dynamics affect daily life, community relations, and local responses to conflict, with the aim of contributing to the criminological understanding of violence in contemporary urban contexts.
