Camilo Plaza

VioDemos PhD student. BA in History from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, MA in History from Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Phd. student in History at Lateinamerika Institut, Freie Universität Berlin.

His doctoral research analyzes the process of securitization and escalation of social conflicts in post-dictatorial Chile, with special emphasis on the State and the role played by Carabineros and the Investigative Police as the main agencies responsible for carrying out intelligence and control of the protest. Through the study of specific situations of protest cycles and situations considered critical for internal order and security, his work seeks to understand the dynamics of the relationship between repression and social conflicts during the “30 years” and how it reached a turning point, still open, in October 2019.
